What is Cosmetic Gynecology ?

Cosmetic gynecology is the branch of gynecology that deals with the aesthetic enhancement of the female genitals. This will include the function of the vagina as well as the improvement of its physical appearance that will help the body look younger.

Cosmetic Gynecology Procedures

Aikya provides the following cosmetic gynecology procedures

  • Vaginoplasty

The tissues of the vagina normally stretch during sex and childbirth. As time passes, these tissues lose their elasticity. Vaginoplasty actually helps correct these effects of age and also the hormonal changes around these parts. Vaginoplasty can also be known as a reconstructive procedure as it is focused on tissue injuries or birth defects.

A cosmetic surgeon usually performs the Vaginoplasty. Surgical techniques are employed to tighten the perineal muscles and also repair the walls of the vagina by reducing its width. Vaginal tuck, the tightening of the tissues in the vagina can also be performed here.

As in most surgical procedures, there might be side effects like abnormal bleeding, difficulty urinating, abnormal vaginal discharge, painful sexual intercourse, infection or inflammation and sometimes leakage. It usually takes about four to six weeks for the patient to recover.

  • Labiaplasty

The fold of skin at the opening of the vagina is called the labia. The size and shape of the labia differ in each woman. Some might have excess skin naturally that can cause discomfort, leading to trouble with intimacy.

The procedure by which this excess skin is removed from the labia, in turn, decreasing the overall size and volume without reducing the sensation is called Labiaplasty.

Recovery usually takes up to a couple of months for the skin to heal completely. It is advised to avoid sex for a few weeks and to always keep the area clean.

Common side effects include soreness, bruising, swelling and difficulty to pass urine.

  • Hymenoplasty

Hymenoplasty surgery is nothing but the restoration of a ruptured hymen. The Hymen is usually ruptured after sexual intercourse but doing physical activities such as running or jumping can also rupture it. There are a few cases where some women are born without a hymen.

Hymenoplasty surgery is a safe procedure and has two different methods.

Parts of the hymen can be stitched back together if present in the body.
Using tissues from the patient’s body, a new hymen can be reconstructed.

After a hymen is reconstructed, the next time it ruptures there might be bleeding. Some noted side effects are swelling, pain or bruising as well as discoloration of the hymen, bleeding, and numbness.

Recovery usually takes up to 10 days even though it is advised not to engage in sexual intercourse for at least 8 weeks after the procedure.
